Major Accomplishments

  • More than 30 children now receive academic scholarships for secondary school, college or vocational school.
  • With our help, three meals are served each day. These standard servings of porridge are now often supplemented with fruits, vegetables and meat.
  • A full-time social worker, funded by Change the Truth, now lives at the orphanage to look after the needs of the children, track the academic progress of sponsored students and help ensure the best use of financial grants.
  • Musical instruments and uniforms have been provided to form the SMK marching band. The band provides an enrichment opportunity for the children as well as an additional source of income for the orphanage.
  • New bedding, including mattresses, sheets, blankets and mosquito netting, are provided to all orphans.
  • A computer lab and textbook library have been established to enhance the children’s learning and provide the necessary skills for future success.
  • Hearing aids and glasses are provided to those who need them.
  • Self-sustaining vegetable gardens have been planted and additional seeds provided.
  • Brick-making supplies, a maize mill and a rainwater capture system have been provided.
  • Provisions for an on-site nurse, along with medications, have been made. The nurse is a former CTT sponsored student and recent graduate of Mengo Nursing School.
  • A newly remodeled kitchen has been installed providing a smoke-free and safer environment for preparing and serving meals.
  • “Tom and Randy’s Garden,” established with a generous grant to CTT and named in honor of two members of Team 2, provides fresh vegetables to supplement the children’s daily diet.
