Melissa is a licensed social worker who accompanied Gloria on several mission trips to Uganda. It was obvious from the first trip she had found her second home with the kids at SMK. Along with her son, Antwain, Melissa moved to Uganda in August 2010 to live at the orphanage and work each day with the children at St. Mary Kevin. Her primary duties include monitoring the academic performance of our sponsored students, ensuring our financial grants to the orphanage are properly accounted for and identifying additional opportunities for Change the Truth to help improve the lives of the children at SMK.
Rosemary, who is called “Mum” by the children at the orphanage, was born in 1954 and completed her secondary education before proceeding to Makerere Business School for her degree in Business Studies. She established St. Mary Kevin Orphanage and School in 1987. Rosemary has taught, as well as counseled, pupils of all ages. In addition, she participates in community programs such as HIV/AIDS sensitization and economic empowerment of widows and grandmothers. She also organizes vocational training for orphans who have graduated from the Primary school and establishes projects for them, such as brick making and farming. She and Joseph were married in 1973, and they have four children: Patrick, Fred, Ronald and Ann Lillian. They are also proud grandparents.
Born in 1949, Joseph completed his secondary education before proceeding to Makerere University for a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. He worked for Shell Oil for twenty-one years in various management positions, including alternate director. In 1994 Joseph retired from Shell and, together with Rosemary, managed a gas station for five years. In 1999 Joseph joined Academy for Educational Development (AED) based in Washington, DC as a part-time consultant specializing in education statistics. Joseph is the Director of Finance for both the orphanage and the school. He has also taught at various levels of Nursery, Primary, Secondary and University and is a part-time counselor for all age ranges.
